Effective Management

I just purchased 16 acres in Robards, KY. It is named "The Black Walnut Farms," but there are only a handful of walnut trees on the property. The address is 14016 Hwy 41 S. I plan to develop the land over the next 5 years. I have reserved 7 acres for timber land. There is already 5.5 acres of forest. What is a quality, acceptable, economical, and environmentally friendly choice? The research tells me to stick with Black Walnut, but I'm really interested in Paulownia. When I tell people that, they act like its the black plague. Should I diversify the timber? Please advise.

Hello Keegan,

The best place to go for answers to your question in your area would be to reach out to a local forester.  You might also want to talk to your state forestry agency or local extension foresters.  You might also consider hiring a consulting forester.  We have some instructions available to help walk you through this process of connecting to our 460 plus foresters from around the country.  Through your account, you can Request a Consultation and share a read-only version of your map and goals.

We also have some helpful content around Choosing a Consulting Forester and Finding and Hiring a Consulting Forester

Hope that helps.
