How write managerment plan

Hi Eddie,

Thanks for your question about management plans!  A management plan is a document that is developed by a forester who has the training and expertise to assess your woods and work with you to chart the future activities and timeline to accomplish the goals you have for your land. But since this will be your management plan, so you need to work closely with your forester in the development. You will co-create the plan with your forester and you will need to make sure you understand the plan, since it will be your responsibility to implement it.

The first step to getting a management is deciding what the goals your have for the property.  My Land Plan's Goals and Activities section can help you to select your goals and their associated activities but a forester can help you prioritize your goals in the context of what is currently on your land.

Next you need to gather a map of your property.   The map you develop in this tool is exactly what you will need.

Once you develop your goals and your map and you select your forester from the forester directory, then you can share you mylandplan online with your forester.

Working with you, your goals and the map for your property, your forester will develop the rest of the document. You and your forester might want to consider developing a plan using a template.

This template will allow you to use the same plan to participate in the Forest Stewardship program, the Americans Tree Farm system and participate in USDA cost share programs.

A property inventory will most likely be recommended as part of your plan.  This allows the forester to discover what is currently in place to work with (plants, animals, water sources, etc.) and what factors may limit the accomplishment of your goals (access, topography, recent activities, etc.).
