Food Forest

I'm interested in repopulating some of the trees on the higher elevations of my property with food species and legume varieties - as well as possibly helping the American Chestnut research and making sure there are sufficient legume species to promote growth without much human intervention. There are several fairly steep slopes that have scrubby wild growth - I'd like to slowly replace that with nuts, maples, etc - but do it in such a way I'm not contributing to erosion or landslide conditions.

Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you for reaching out!  I would recommend that you talk with a local forester who could give you the best advice on what are the most appropriate species to plant on your specific terrain.  We have a section in the "Find Help" section: https://mylandplan.org/content/foresters that talks about the different types of foresters that are available.  We also have a Forester Directory where you can see which foresters are near you and read through their profile to find the one that best matches your goals and interested.  You can access the Forester Directory here: https://mylandplan.org/foresters-near-me?proximity=all&distance=99999 when you are logged into your MyLandPlan.org account.

cheers,
