- the application is unstable, meaning it quits suddenly. Thus when I am entering a property boundary I save often. Every time I save the application resumes post save in the enter features screen, with a splash screen telling me the great things I can do there and a very different magnification level. Thus I have to go back to boundaries, turn off the labels overlay and zoom in to find where I left off.
- when entering a feature (like a road or stand of trees) the program intermittently brings up the box that allows one to add comments / descriptions to the feature. This appears to be random, can obscure the feature I am trying to identify, and the box is not always dismissed by hitting the X in the top right corner. How about having the comment box only appear after the entry of the feature is complete?
- when entering a property line I have had the program mis-read a screen input and literally try to draw a property line to the north pole. How about a setting that sets a maximum distance between points on a boundary?
Fun application, and potentially very useful - however the issues described above greatly detract from the utility of the application! Also, in Tennessee the assessors maps show up in the google map, thus this gives a good starting point for entering property lines
Hi Steve,
Suggestions are always appreciated. Let me start by saying that using the iPad to enter information is slightly trickier than using a desktop browser, but it can be done.
You first comment was that the application was unstable, and was crashing on you. I have yet to experience this on a desktop browser or an iPad. I can, however, tell you why you are getting the splash screen on the features map. The splash screen gets presented on the features map page whenever a user loads that screen and has not mapped any features. The concept is that they are likely visiting the page for the first time if they don't have any features, and the extra info might help them. As soon as you save just one feature on that map, you will no longer get the splash screen.
Your second comment mentioned that you were getting the comment box to come up right away when entering features. This is not the default behavior. When a feature is completed, you should see the screen dim with a message saying "Saving." After the screen comes back and the "saving" message is gone, the save is complete. Nothing should come up until you click on the feature, then a box would come up with the default title and buttons for you to "change details" or "delete." As you have mentioned, the box in the top right corner is used to close the pop up. This can be tricky and make take a few tries to hit the right area, but it does work. I found it difficult to use as well on the iPad when I was testing. Often times it took me several tries before I could get it to close.
I have not experienced your last problem, though admittedly I have not used the mapping features on an iPad all that much. I would hesitate to put a restriction on the max distance cause some of our users have very large properties, making it difficult to determine what that max distance should safely be set to.
Thanks for your suggestions. I might suggest to you to try to use a desktop browser for the mapping of your boundaries if you are still having trouble. That should make entering the boundaries much easier. Also, if you know which version of IOS you are using on your iPad that might be helpful as well. Feel free to email me at brian@djcase.com. Thanks!
