Mapping

Having no luck with the initial mapping tool. I attended a class at the State Forest Service last night and was the only person who could not get the program to allow me to map my land, a 165 agre parcel in Northern COLO.

1) Once I get three or four sides drawn, the progrm automatically runs an angled line to the point of beginning, and I can't figure out how to delete this boundary which is completely wrong as there are 8 separate lines I need to plot, all with 90 degree corners. The GIS guy couldn't figure it out either. What am I doing wrong and how does one delete lines or points?

Thanks for any help,

Ric

Hello Ric,

I'm sorry you are having trouble with the mapping interface. My first suggestion would be to watch the How to Add a property video followed by the How to add features and points of interest video. Both of these videos show how each of the respective mapping interfaces work and how you can undo mistakes. My guess is that you might be double clicking on the map at some point. If you add a few points then double click, the polygon will automatically close, connecting back to the original entry point, much like the problem you described.

You will likely need to delete the boundary you already created if you saved those changes. You cannot delete individual points or segments of a boundary. You can edit and move points, but it sounds like your boundary is not the shape you need, so I would suggest deleting it and re-mapping it entirely. Deleting the boundary is shown in the help video, but it's pretty simple. Double click in the middle of the boundary and a small bubble will pop up with a link to delete the boundary. Clicking delete will remove it and you can begin plotting a new boundary. Don't forget to save your changes when you are done. As I mentioned before, once you get the rough shape plotted, you can single click on the bounary to activate handles on all of the points. From there you can click and drag on a point to fine tune it.

If you have any other problems, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for using My Land Plan!
