Does stacking cut fire wood next to large oak affect the trees health? Dr Scott Boyle

Hey Scott,

Thank you for your question! While trees can provide the cover you need to air dry your firewood, there are a few considerations you need to bear in mind.

The first is that anything resting directly against your oak may cause bark damage and harm to your tree. Additionally, many pests can survive in firewood and will transfer from the cut cords to your living oak. Even local wood may play host, so keeping a little distance and killing any surface pests is a good idea.

Best,

Dan Hubbell
