Thinning and light clearing

I have 20 acres in Virginia that was logged approx 15 years ago prior to my purchase of the property. Over time a lot of small trees have filled the property making it very dense and allows very little light into the property. I do not want to clear cut or destroy the woods as i purchased because i enjoy the woods and hunting, but i would like to thin it to allow for better wildlife and access for planting food sources. Are there any grants available that may help with the thinning process on a private tract this size? Large mix of trees but mostly looking at just trying to get rid of the smaller ones that are not growing much and blocking sunlight. Any information or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

You may want to try contacting your local USDA NRCS office. They have conservation programs that can help pay for making conservation improvements.
