FLP: Forest Legacy Program

The Forest Legacy program can help you protect your working forest.

  • Who: all landowners.
  • What: helps forest landowners keep their woods healthy, intact and protected from development.
  • Where: in all states, but only within state-defined Forest Legacy Areas.
  • How: FLP helps landowners set up a conservation easement that protects the property’s unique features. Landowners receive a percentage of the property’s fair market value and up to 75 percent of the project costs.
  • Which federal agency: USDA US Forest Service
