Forester: Dave Holley
Dave Holley, Senior Forester for Nassau County
I started with the Florida Forest Service in 2001 as the Duval County Forester and then transferred to Cary State Forest. Since 2006, I’ve served Nassau County landowners by providing them with FREE forest management advice! I thoroughly enjoy meeting with landowners and helping them accomplish their objectives. I provide suggestions, written forest management plans, maps, forestry vendor lists, and information about cost share programs. I also enjoy implementing prescribed burns for landowners, but there’s usually a charge for that. When wildfires occur, I sometimes help by making maps or “mopping up” after rangers stop the advancing flames. I’ve even been deployed to western states several times to fight wildfires with hand tools! Another great part about my job is conducting education programs for children, teens and adults. I can also provide homeowners and government officials with urban forestry advice. If you have any forestry related questions or needs, I would sure love to help.
On a personal note, I grew up in Alabama and was blessed with awesome parents! I graduated from Auburn University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry. Although I’m crazy about my career, it doesn’t come close the love I hold for my family and for Jesus! My son was born in 2008, and we have LOTS of fun together riding bikes, fishing, playing games, and more. We meet with a local Baptist church where I teach youth, play guitar and lead worship. Other fun facts: I can juggle and do amazing skateboard tricks!
