Greg Barton, Marion County Forester
I have served as the Marion County Forester since 1999. I began work with the Florida Forest Service (aka Division of Forestry) in 1986. While attending Forestry School at the University of Florida, I worked two summers with students at the Forestry Environmental Education Camp in Brooksville. Upon graduation in 1988 with my degree in forestry and certificate in Urban Forestry, I began work as a forest ranger/firefighter in Lake City. In 1989 I became the county forester in Pinellas County. Upon elimination of the urban forester positions around the state, I returned to forest ranger position in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties in 1994. In 1999 I promoted back to a county forester in Marion County, working with landowners, local governments, and other cooperators to promote forest management, urban tree care, and to support the fire control mission of the Florida Forest Service. I enjoy meeting landowners on a property, explaining what they have and what can be, and seeing the light in their eyes when they truly understand the possibilities!
